Lesson:Anatomical Terminology Objective: Anatomy is a complex subject. The human body parts have not changes in 100,00 years. What has changed are the words. The hardest part of this class is the overwhelming vocabulary. Anatomy has its own language which the students need to know to be able to communicate with other scientists or medical personnel. This assignment will the student to become familiar with the vocabulary relevant and pertinent to the topic of anatomy and physiology. Some of the vocabulary will or should be familiar for their biology class. Added to this basic background knowledge a student should be able to use Latin and Greek prefixes, roots words and suffixes to help them understand the different anatomical terms. There are two assignments that accompany this unit as a laboratory activity and can be found in the laboratory manual. Below part of the the district curriculum for this topic. Before the start of this lesson, the "hook" of attention is to discuss the different names of what people think is a cougar. Hopefully students will see the need for a common language. With a partner, students will use the lab manual to learn the beginninga of anatomical words. On the wiki, I have place three videos/podcasts that can help with this acquistion of words and understanding. There is pretest, just to refresh their minds from their biology class. The lab manual has different activities for the student to do.
